The Mumblings of an Observer

Jurgen Schrempp is currently the boss of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. He is a ruthless, chain smoking industrialist. As a known philanderer, he probably fathered an illegitimate son while heading up Mercedes-Benz' glorious sanctions busting South African operation in the early 1980's.

If you like the taste of a lobster stew, served by a window with an ocean view.....

I've found a part of Melbourne that I like, situated only a short drive from a part of Melbourne that I can afford to live and a slightly longer drive from a part of Melbourne where I earn my cash money.

The place is Williamstown, a relaxed seaside community not 10 km from the Rialto tower. When a place just feels right, it's not always easy to list objective truths about it that make it so special. Let's just say that it feels right, in the same way that struggling through traffic on Lygon Street last night didn't feel right.

The place nearby that I can afford to live is Altona. This too seems like a relaxed place, although it isn't maintained to the same standard as Williamstown. The equivalent of Altona in Adelaide would be Semaphore.

In any capital city of Australia, a hungry traveller can find some kind of fine dining experience. This is becoming more and more common. What is becoming less and less common is the ability to get an order of fish and chips and scoff it by the beach in relative peace. Altona offers this.

I live in a flat right now where Luke has elected to place a fucking pretentious painting of a chick smoking with a self important look on her face.

Looking at this everyday has helped fuel my total system rejection of that kind of thing.

Armed with this attitude, I expect my next six months in Melbourne to be better than my first. This will be helped by moving on to another office where I get to order things that keep planes in the air, and bring them safely back to earth when required.
