The Mumblings of an Observer

Jurgen Schrempp is currently the boss of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. He is a ruthless, chain smoking industrialist. As a known philanderer, he probably fathered an illegitimate son while heading up Mercedes-Benz' glorious sanctions busting South African operation in the early 1980's.

Such as Workplace Relations

I'm in two minds abut this WorkChoices business.

I think that blue-collars who voted for Howard because they don't like darkies are about to get what they deserve.

Tasmanian timber workers (Who spurned Mark Lathams offer of an $800 million bailout to stop destroying old growth) will also not be candidates for my sympathy if they lose their piss break.

I want to believe that there are enough educated, confident and individually minded people out there to make this work. It pisses me off that this is not the case. I'm disgusted with the reality that most of the country's workforce cannot bargain on their own merits, but this remains the reality nonetheless.

The first thing that will go will be paid vacation, as an individual worker will never be able to justify why the boss should pay him for doing nothing. Paid sick leave will go along similar lines.

I'd be happy to take a half hour lunch break instead of an hour if it meant that I got to leave earlier, but I can see that if enough people do this it will become the standard lunch break and there won't be any choice.

It's important to note that self employed people don't have this problem. They can work as much or as little as they want with one small catch.

The clock's ticking.

Any time that they are not working is reflected in their bottom line. They can make their own decisions, but nobody will be looking after them.

Sadly, the dependance mentality is real. The corporate right want you to keep it because it means assymetrical loyalty. The socialist left want you to keep it because it stops individuals from being truly powerful and keeps them under state control.

If you've got it, you're about to get pumped.
