The Mumblings of an Observer

Jurgen Schrempp is currently the boss of DaimlerChrysler Corporation. He is a ruthless, chain smoking industrialist. As a known philanderer, he probably fathered an illegitimate son while heading up Mercedes-Benz' glorious sanctions busting South African operation in the early 1980's.

You should read these, yes you should.

1. The Rum Diary, by Hunter S. Thompson

A rare book by Hunter S that doesn't make you scream at a teddy bear for several hours. Set in Puerto Rico in the late 50's it is a story of a young journalist at a god-awful tabloid lurching from one alcohol soaked day to the next. Where "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is little more than a story about a weekend of concentrated drug fuelled depravity, "The Rum Diary" is written at a pace that allows some thought and reflection about what's going on. After reading it I wanted to have a rum sundowner in some place where people spoke Spanish.

2. Guts: 8 Laws of Business, by Bob Lutz

This a management book not written from the CoMBI (Collective Masturbation Based Initiative) School.

You might not not like the man's obvious corporate right wing style, but that's OK because very little of the book has anything to do with politics.

He doesn't have any tolerance for bullshit or buzz words, nor for people who act like robots.

It is written by a human, for humans.
